We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon James Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon James, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My love for artwork and the color rose gold started at a young age while growing up in London, England. I was always drawing or creating something new, but never pursued my creative side until a decade later while living in Dallas, Texas. Starting with photography on a family trip to Alaska in 2016, I landed on the name RoseGold Photography to label my pictures. At the same time I was working with a fashion startup out of Houston through which I met several manufactures. Within the same week, I spotted a rose gold watch that I just could not get off my mind. After visiting this watch three days in a row, I decided to buy it. I disliked how rose gold was mostly viewed as feminine, and mainly associated with women’s accessories. Once I noticed that I did not have any shoes or belt to match my new rose gold watch is when I realized a void in the market. My initial plan was to become a Dallas real-estate investor with some money I had saved to pursue that. Instead, I immediately incorporated, filed several trademarks, and designed sample shoes and belts. Since then, RoseGold Apparel is now in over seven countries, held events with Nordstrom, and has been seen in GQ, ELLE, and Harper’s Bazaar magazines.
What should our readers know about your business?
RoseGold Apparel offers not only luxury products, but a luxury lifestyle. Our products are hand designed, and carefully selected and inspected over a multi faceted process in order to only deliver the best. Specifically our leather goods products such as shoes, belts, wallets, bags, etc. are all handcrafted in Sao Paulo, Brazil from Italian calf leather sourced from Santa, Croce Italy. The detail and quality of each item reflects the lifestyle RoseGold strives to portray. We encourage the manifestation of emotion through RoseGold Apparel that empowers individuals to feel successful, ambitious, confident, youthful, and unique while wearing our products.
Where RoseGold Apparel is today was not an easy journey by any means. I have worked with many manufactures from all over the world, numerous creatives, countless dollars, and endless problems. It has taken a lot of grit and perseverance, but each step of the way has been an invaluable learning opportunity and experiences I hold very close to my heart. I truly love RoseGold, what it has done for others, what it will do for the fashion industry, and what it represents as a brand. Because of that, there is no amount of setback that will ever get me to stop moving forward. I have not only learned every facet of business development, but have also grown as a man and a leader.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I only moved to Miami a little over a year ago, there is still so much for me to see and learn. One place I have really grown fond of for a night out has been Komodo. The ambiance and the food is spot on, and being right in Brickell is a perfect location. Another location I would encourage my friends to visit would be the Florida Keys. I am a huge advocate for being outdoors and around nature. With the Keys being so close to Miami, it is a must when trying to relax and feel on vacation. There is so much to do in South Florida, from being on the water, going to restaurants, visiting the everglades, walking through Wynwood, etc. Whatever you want to do, can happen here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
RoseGold Apparel would not be where it is today without the support from my close friends and family. I have been very blessed with a tight, loving, and encouraging family that is always there for me. With many ups and downs ever since I started this venture, they have always believed in RoseGold Apparel just as much as I have. That alone, means the world to me. Specifically my older brother Brian, has listened to my endless ideas, plans, problems, and more. His open ears, advice, and encouragement has been priceless and more valuable to me than he could ever know. Additionally, my close circle of friends have supported me from the beginning. Either by buying my product, scanning the website for new ideas, or brainstorming with me, I am so grateful. Choosing the entrepreneurial journey can feel quite isolating at times, and having encouragement and people to trust helps significantly.
